The boat ramp is good and easy but you have to fight the power boats and water skiers in the warmer months great at night when it is dark because it is well lit however it is out of sight and quite remote.
The old baot ramp opposite Thompson Square (below Windsor Bridge where the Paddle Wheeler jetty is) is really good. It is well lit, and visible to people passing by so is the better choice when at night and alone. It is closer to the kayak friendly section of the river as power boats are not allowed past this point at speed.
The beach area at Macquarie Park is excellent and you will find the kayak club there most Sunday mornings doing training. I find a chat with these enthusiasts great for finding tips about technique, which is useful when paddling long distances between casting lures.
All of these spots are easy for parking and access.
If you want to fish closer to Freeman's Reach and not have to paddle, drive along Freeman's Reach Rd and launch opposite to cricket fields. It is a little steep but gets you amongst some good spots.
North Richmond is also an excellent place to drop the kayak in, at North Richmond Park, park off Beaumont Ave. You will need to carry the kayak down across the park and it is quite a walk but well worth the effort. If you have a trolley it is simple. There is a jetty there and an easy bank for kayak launching.
Yarramundi is a beautiful spot on the kayak. You have a choice of the Grose River on the western side or the Nepean River on the Eastern side. I tend to go to the Wetsern Entrance and put in on the Grose. There you can paddle in both directions and access both rivers.
Devlin Rd at Castlereigh is located between Penrith and Windsor and has great facilities for putting in the kayak. The scenery along there is quite nice, and well worth a look. Car access is good and you do not have to carry your kayak far to put in.
Out of the Hawkesbury you have another large range of choices and these will be covered on another page.
I will talk about indivudual spots for fishing in other pages also.
View from the Old Boat ramp. There is always Bass to be found under the bridge around the pilons - usually small but a good way to start the trip. |
